To achieve our aims, there are three broad strands of work we are undertaking:
- Finding people who are focused on the Essential Qualities
- Performing research to understand better how they are learned
- Spreading this understanding and these practices as widely as possible
Finding experts
We aim to grow a network of experts who understand the theory and / or practice of developing the Essential Qualities.
We expect this network to be international and network members to share their expertise and promote the work of Flow.
Research
We want to embrace, connect and distil existing research wherever possible and only conduct research to fill gaps
All of our research needs to be applicable and impactful in practice which means we expect much of it to be international in scope, deep and long-term
Key questions we aim to answer are:
Value
- How do the Essential Qualities impact personal, social, economic and environmental wellbeing?
- Which other human qualities are affected by the Essential Qualities and how?
Theoretical understanding
- How do the Essential Qualities develop in humans (applying psychological, neuroscientific and social sciences lenses)?
- How do external factors (such as parents, teachers and ambient educators) affect the development of the Essential Qualities?
Practical understanding
- How best should the development of the Essential Qualities be educated by parents, teachers and others?
- How should our findings be applied in order to maximise impact?
Spreading understanding and practice
We want to maximise adoption and impact by:
- Bringing research to life
Broadcast research in innovative, engaging and impactful ways so that more people access, absorb and apply it
Secure support for research so as to give credibility to our field
- Inspiring adoption of good practice
Quality stamp great practices
Create and publicise a directory of practices
- Mentoring practitioners
Forge long term, one on one relationships
Provide advice, support and introductions to help growth
